DMHC issues statement regarding Consumer Watchdog legal action on health care coverage for persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder

(Sacramento) – The California Department of Managed Health Care has issued the following statement regarding a lawsuit brought today in Los Angeles Superior Court over health care coverage for persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

“We have not yet fully analyzed the lawsuit, however, the DMHC is holding health plans accountable to provide a range of health care services for those with autism,” said Lynne Randolph, spokesperson for the California Department of Managed Health Care. “We have explicitly told health plans that they may not exclude any particular therapies or treatments for Autism Spectrum Disorder that have been determined to be health care services and are administering the consumer complaint process according to law.”
